The Burning Bush

Exodus 3:1–15

For children

Moses was taking care of sheep when he saw a bush on fire — but it didn't burn up! God spoke from the bush: "Take off your sandals, this is holy ground." God told Moses to go back to Egypt and lead His people out. God told Moses His name: I AM WHO I AM.

For grown-ups

God reveals His covenant name, Yahweh — the self-existent, unchanging One who has heard His people's cry. Jesus takes the name on His lips: 'Before Abraham was, I am' (John 8:58).
