God Makes Everything
For children
In the beginning there was nothing but God. God spoke, and light came. He made the sky and the sea, the land and the plants, the sun, moon and stars, the fish and birds and animals. Last of all He made a man and a woman to be like Him and to care for His world. Everything God made was very good, and on the seventh day He rested.
For grown-ups
Genesis opens not with a myth of warring gods but with one sovereign Creator who speaks the world into order in six days and rests on the seventh. Man and woman alone bear His image and receive the commission to fill and rule the earth. The rest of the Bible assumes this foundation: God owns everything because He made it, and the new creation will be the restoration of this good world.
