David and Goliath

1 Samuel 17:1–54

For children

Goliath was a giant soldier who made fun of God. Everyone was scared — except David, a shepherd boy. David said, "The battle is the LORD's!" With his sling and one stone, he knocked Goliath down. God gave His people the victory.

For grown-ups

This is not first of all a story about facing your giants; it is about a champion. Israel stands paralysed while one anointed man fights for them and wins a victory they share in. Christ is the greater David who defeated our enemies alone.
