Gideon's Small Army

Judges 7:1–22

For children

Gideon had 32,000 soldiers, but God said, "Too many!" He sent most of them home until only 300 were left. At night they blew trumpets, broke jars and held up torches. The enemy got scared and ran away. Everyone knew God won the battle.

For grown-ups

God shrinks the army so Israel cannot boast, 'My own hand has saved me' (Judg 7:2). Judges keeps showing a weak people and weak deliverers, rescued by God's strength — and longing for a better King.
