Abraham and Isaac on the Mountain

Genesis 22:1–19

For children

God gave Abraham a son, Isaac. Then God tested Abraham and told him to offer Isaac on a mountain. Isaac asked, "Where is the lamb?" Abraham said, "God will provide." Just in time, God stopped Abraham and gave a ram caught in a bush instead. God provided!

For grown-ups

On Mount Moriah — later the temple mount — a father offers his only beloved son, who carries the wood up the hill. God stops the knife and provides a substitute. Two thousand years later, God did not spare His own Son (Rom 8:32).
