Jacob's Ladder

Genesis 28:10–22

For children

Jacob was running away from home. He slept outside with a stone for a pillow and dreamed of a stairway reaching to heaven, with angels going up and down. God stood above it and promised to be with Jacob wherever he went.

For grown-ups

God meets a scheming fugitive with grace, not rebuke, and repeats the promises to Abraham. Jesus claims to be the ladder: 'you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man' (John 1:51).
