Noah's Ark

Genesis 6:9–9:17

For children

People had become very wicked, but Noah loved God. God told Noah to build a huge boat and to bring his family and animals of every kind inside. Then it rained and rained until water covered the whole earth. God kept everyone in the ark safe. When the water went down, God put a rainbow in the sky as a promise never to flood the whole earth again.

For grown-ups

The flood is God's judgment on a world 'filled with violence', and the ark is His provision of salvation through judgment. Peter sees it as a picture of baptism and of Christ, who brings us safely through (1 Pet 3:20–21). The rainbow seals the covenant that holds the world steady until the final judgment.
